Dealing with challenging behavior can be draining and taxing for both children and parents. Children thrive in supportive environments with available and responsive caregivers, and with clear, consistent boundaries and high expectations. Through an array of life circumstances, a child’s environment may not be ideal, or, even in the best environments children (and adults) may still struggle. Dr. Palma’s approach to behavior is one that determines the root cause, or communicative intent of the behavior, the need that may not be fulfilled, and the resilience-building supports that are available to a child. Dr. Palma uses a trauma-informed approach to all services and all children, which considers possible attachment disruptions or other adverse childhood experiences that may be contributing to the behaviors of concern.

Services may include:

  • Parent-counseling aimed at uncovering the root of the child’s behavior, the communicative intent of the behavior, and strategies for supporting your child(ren)

  • Observations in various settings

  • Ongoing progress monitoring and support

  • Functional Behavior Analysis evaluation

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) assessment

  • Collaboration with your child’s school
